Spray on Skin: Bioactive Peptide Amphiphiles for Enhanced Skin Regeneration

Despite significant advances in the development of biomaterials for skin regeneration, treatment options remain lacking in establishing both functional and cosmetic satisfaction. The ultimate goal is to achieve scarless wound healing, a goal that will require biomaterial advances which can overcome a number of significant hurdles. These include ease of application, integrity of the scaffold, avoiding immune response and infection, fast application times, and ultimately cost of the intervention. Herein we propose a platform technology based on the spray delivery of bioactive self-assembling molecules, in the presence of a patient’s own skin cells, with the goal of creating a therapeutic intervention capable of achieving authentic skin regeneration following injury.
