The BioPACIFIC MIP is seeking to fill a Microelectron Diffraction Project Scientist position to support research efforts at the forefront of molecular structural analysis as part of a diverse and dynamic team within the BioPACIFIC MIP at its UCLA site. The successful candidate will establish a world-class center for microelectron diffraction (microED) and take a lead role in the development and application of next-generation microED methods toward structure determination of key molecules in support of a diverse and vibrant user community.

Working closely with both the research and operations teams, the Computation and Data Specialist will be responsible for specifying and overseeing BioPACIFIC’s data structure, including a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs), and associated connectivity of people and equipment to these systems. The Computation and Data Specialist will also work with the BioPACIFIC computation team to create data pathways between BioPACIFIC data streams and existing research data platforms such as BisQue and Citrine, and with outputs from biomaterials computation and simulation workflows. The Computation and Data Specialist will also work with the computation researchers to set up the appropriate metadata infrastructure necessary to support machine learning algorithms and visualization methods. The Computation and Data Specialist will work with UCSB’s Center for Scientific Computing to manage the computing and storage resources supporting this data framework.
