Research

Heterocyclic disulfides have become a useful monomer to install degradability into traditional vinyl polymers. By leveraging the commercial availability and synthetic tunability offered by 1,2-heterocyclic disulfides such as the biocompatible lipoic acid, we have demonstrated large scale synthesis of degradable plastics with a wide variety of material properties.

Biography

Parker graduated from the Robert D. Clark honors college at the University of Oregon in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. During his time at UO he studied organometallic complexes under the guidance of Prof. Amanda Cook. He has since shifted his focus from small molecules to larger polymeric systems studying degradable vinyl copolymers with Prof. Chris Bates and Prof. Javier Read de Alaniz at UCSB.
