High throughput polymer brush synthesis for long-lasting enzymes

Cascade Bio is revolutionizing chemical manufacturing with our Body Armor for Enzymes™ technology. Enzymes are nature’s catalysts, performing chemical reactions from renewable feedstocks under mild conditions without hazardous waste. However, most enzymes are not stable in industrial chemical manufacturing where high temperatures and organic solvent stability are required. To achieve shelf stable, rugged enzymes we have synthesized our Body Armor for Enzymes™, a dense polymer brush coating providing a “cushion-like” stabilizing environment. When enzymes are immobilized to the polymer brushes, enzyme activity is retained in organic solvents and at high temperatures. The goal of this project is to leverage the use of the ChemSpeed Robotic platform available through the BioPACIFIC MIP facility to translate our lab scale experiments to a high throughput method enabling us to increase our understanding of how polymer composition can lead to enzyme stabilizing interactions.
