BioPACIFIC MIP's Rachel Segalman Appointed to CCST Board of Directors
bringing her leadership and scientific expertise to the board advising California policymakers.
Rachel Segalman, a BioPACIFIC MIP faculty and Vice Chancellor for Research at UC Santa Barbara, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST). Appointed by University of California President James B. Milliken, Segalman is one of three representatives of the UC System on the board.
CCST is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that provides independent science and technology advice to California policymakers. Its board brings together representatives from California’s research institutions and leaders in business, policy, and philanthropy to support the organization’s work.
At UC Santa Barbara, Segalman serves as the university’s chief research officer, guiding the strategic direction of its research enterprise and supporting faculty and research teams across disciplines. She is also the Edward Noble Kramer Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Materials. Her research focuses on the structure and thermodynamics of energy-relevant polymers, including water-separation membranes, polyelectrolytes, semiconducting polymers, and bioinspired polymers.
Segalman’s appointment reflects her leadership in research and her service to the broader science and technology community. Before becoming Vice Chancellor for Research, she chaired UCSB’s Department of Chemical Engineering. Her other service includes work with the National Academies and Lawrence Livermore National Security.
BioPACIFIC MIP congratulates Rachel Segalman on this appointment and looks forward to the contributions she will make to CCST’s work connecting science with public policy in California.
